SDA have specific experience of designing services for palliative care and geriatric units.
SDA prepared specifications for the refurbishment of St Luke’s Hospice Sheffield. Our staff were responsible for liaison with the Hospice’s team to determine the extent of the services brief and in particular technical services such as staff call systems, patient absence detection, access control, telecoms services, patient entertainment systems, medical gases etc. Detailed technical specifications were prepared for the contract which was let on a design and build basis with SDA retained by the Hospice to oversee the development of the building services design and the installation works on site.
The project has been developed in two phases with a new build Phase 1 and refurbishment Phase 2 with the Hospice maintaining 14 beds in operation throughout the works. The new facilities incorporate a ground source heat pump and photovoltaic cells together with energy recovery to minimise running costs for the Hospice.
This project won the prize for “Best Internal Environment” at the Building Better Healthcare Awards.
