Royal Hallamshire Hospital – Main Drainage and Contaminated Waste Systems Replacement
Services Design Associates were appointed by Sheffield Teaching Hospital NHS Trust to carry out a detailed survey of their existing drainage systems at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital, Sheffield. The Royal Hallamshire Hospital is a 26 storey teaching hospital with 29 active medical and surgical wards as well as medical laboratories, operating theatres and other specialist services. In addition to handling general domestic waste, the drainage system handles waste from laboratories and medical facilities with an elevated risk of infection, chemical and radio active contamination. The drainage system is routed through confined horizontal service voids and vertical risers. A range of survey techniques were applied including introduction of CCTV cameras, ultrasonic flow rate detectors and invasive surveys.
