Mechanical engineeringMechanical services such as ventilation, heating and cooling are vital to making the built environment healthy and comfortable for its users.

SDA devise innovative services designs that create environments to suit the needs of processes and building users. Our designs are focussed to meet the needs of our clients and incorporate life cycle costings, energy efficiency and sustainability.

We work proactively with our clients to understand and develop briefs to get to the core of the project objectives. We then incorporate these into contemporary, creative and solid designs that work for all users of the building.  We implement checks to monitor the development of the design to meet the needs of the brief.  We actively participate in the commissioning process to ensure that the building services systems operation meets the design intent and that systems are set up to function in accordance with user requirements.

SDA’s traditional strength is in developing the design of the engineering systems, however, we are equally competent in developing scheme designs and performance specifications where the procurement regime calls for this.  Our experience of the detailed design process allows us to effectively monitor design work undertaken by others.  Our performance specifications are tailored to each project to ensure that the requirements of the brief are communicated to those undertaking the detailed design process.

Increasingly we also undertake the role of technical advisor, providing strategic and detailed advice to Clients on projects where schemes and designs are developed by others, particularly projects using public finance or framework arrangements for procurement.

Our understanding of engineering systems allows us to assist in the diagnosis of operational problems, reviews of operating efficiency, system condition reviews, development of maintenance strategies and risk analysis.

Records of costs relating to mechanical services projects allows us to provide accurate and reliable cost advice on all aspects of engineering services to assist in planning of projects and control of expenditure as projects proceed, up to the agreement of final project values.

As the privatisation of public utilities has led to an increased complexity in arranging for suitable infrastructure development, we have developed our services to arrange and plan development of utility infrastructure for projects on both new and existing sites.  This service includes identifying existing infrastructure and dealing with removals, and also provision of new infrastructure.
